- In The Bourne Identity novel, Carlos The Jackal is an important character. In the 2002 film, that storyline is almost entirely cut out. Carlos The Jackal is killed off at the beginning of the film, but in the novel his character continues on and is among the primary antagonists of the first and third novels of the series.
- In The Bourne Identity novel, it is clear that Jason Bourne is innocent. However, in the film, he seems to be an assassin after all, working for the CIA.
