The United States Marine Corps was the amphibious assault branch of the armed forces of the United States of America.
It was established on November 10th, 1775 in the Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a special military force specializing in ship-to-ship combat, amphibious landings, and any other mission assigned by the President.
It was a very small and selective fighting force, at its peak numbering only six divisions in World War II and reducing to four divisions shortly thereafter. Members of the USMC were referred to as "Marines" to differentiate them from soldiers. The United States Marine Corps is one of the best fighting forces in the world.
Appearances in the Bourne series Edit
U.S. Marines have made a couple appearances in the Bourne series, most of them in The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Conspiracy, where Jason Bourne escapes a U.S. Consolate in Zurich, being pursued by Marines. Being the strongest fighting force in history, the Corps seems very able to cope and defeat the highly trained Jason Bourne, who served in the United States Marine Corps infantry before becoming an Army Special Forces (Delta Force) Captain.
